1. Getting prepared
Tools and materials help you during the repair everything is at hand , it is advisable to specify set out all the utensils ready before. Specifically, these are: a small screwdriver, a digital camera, a kitchen roll, alcohol, a hot air gun and good thermal compound. This is all you need to repair all your PS3 Problems.
2. Open the unit, part 1
Take off the cover and remove it from the hard disk. Then slide the top plastic cover off the one with the PS3 logo on. Now take off all visible screws. Finally, pry the casing along the back gently. It’s best to start at the corner, diagonally opposite the power button.
3. Open the unit, Part 2
Take a photograph with the digital camera before you start removing the screws of the unit as it is, turn the board to expose everything and take out all visible screws. This will make it easier later in the re-assembly. Carefully remove all of its cable, remove fan, power supply and drive. Remove the last clips, which are stretched over the CPUs
4. Parts clean
Preparation for surgery if you have taken the board totally out of the case, remove all the adhesive pads and the thermal compound on the processors. Do this, use alcohol or alcohol and a towel. Place the board on a flat, soft surface, such as towelling .
5. Re-solder contacts, Part 1
Now it’s time to work carefully on soldering, if you can regulate the temperature of your hot air iron so make it to 400 degrees. Run on full for 15 to 30 seconds at a distance of about five centimetres in circular motions over the silver heat spreaders. Let the unit cool for about 15 minutes – without having to touch it or move it.
6. Re-solder contacts, Part 2
Please turn over the board and repeat the procedure on the back of the processors as well as the four memory chips arranged in pairs (also about 15 to 30 seconds). Make sure the temperature is not too hot and just enough until the solder melts , then let it cool down for about 15 minutes
Gently re-build the bonding pads back to the posts and spread thermal grease thinly on the heat spreaders of the processors. Now put the PS3 back together – make sure that all screws and cables are back in the correct place. Check with your photos to help you .
8. Functional check
Has it worked? you have put the big puzzle back together, you can connect your PS3 finally back to the flat screen . Now press the power button! And ideally you have fixed one of the PS3 Problems ylod yellow light of death in under an hour.
